Pink Headed Duck Coffee first began as a boutique café at Indawgyi Lake Wildlife Sanctuary before migrating to New Orleans to continue telling the story of Myanmar specialty coffee to the world.
The inspiration.
The name honors the elusive Pink Headed Duck, a rare species native to the wetlands of eastern India and Myanmar and feared extinct since the 1950s. More recently, however, a series of credible yet unconfirmed sightings by fishermen in northern Myanmar has led some experts and hopeful bird watchers to believe it still might roam the impenetrable landscapes of this region.
About Myanmar Specialty Coffee.
Myanmar, a tropical and mountainous country in Southeast Asia, has seen exponential growth in its green coffee beans for sale and specialty coffee sector overall. Starting in 2013, a USAID-led overhaul not only streamlined the entire supply chain but also transformed Myanmar coffee from the lowest quality to specialty grade in just one harvest—a historic transformation in the coffee world.
Our partners, Sawbwa Coffee.
Started in 2018, Sawbwa Coffee Company is the largest specialty coffee roastery in Myanmar and recently obtained its export license in May 2021. Their on-the-ground logistical support and partnerships with smallholder farmer associations guarantees a smooth supply chain from the hills of Shan State, where the coffee grows, to export in the southern port city of Yangon.
